German talents shine at LichtBlick Newcomer Tour in Magdeburg

The Italian dominance in the LichtBlick Newcomer Tour has been broken. The second U17 race held as part of the Lidl Deutschland Tour ended with an all-German podium. In Magdeburg, Edda Bieberle (Saxony-Anhalt) took the win ahead of Karla Müller (Brandenburg) and Emilia Pauli (Rhineland-Palatinate). Just a day earlier in Kassel, Bieberle had finished second, flanked on the podium by Italy’s Elena D’Agnese and Maddalena Pascut.

For Bieberle, Sunday’s success was even more special, coming close to home. The 46.6-kilometer race began in Wanzleben-Börde before heading into Magdeburg. With a tailwind pushing the pace, the action came on the city circuit where Bieberle, Müller, and Pauli launched their decisive move. Unlike Kassel, which had ended in a mass sprint, this time the attack held. Bieberle and Müller reached the line 16 seconds ahead of Pauli, while the peloton arrived 23 seconds later at the Schleinufer, cheered on by large crowds along the Elbe.

“Our young athletes are not used to such a setting,” said Jan Schlichenmaier, Vice President for Youth at German Cycling. “It’s fantastic that we can give them such a stage – and they give something back in return. I’d be delighted if we can continue this partnership in the future.” Together with German Cycling, the Lidl Deutschland Tour is committed to providing a unique platform for young talents from Germany and abroad.
