Louis Barré wins stage 1 of the Lidl Deutschland Tour 2026

Thursday, August 20th, 1st stage: Bad Orb > Schwäbisch HallLouis Barré (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) has won stage 1 of the 2026 Lidl Deutschland Tour. In the finale of the 215.3-kilometer stage from Bad Orb to Schwäbisch Hall the Frenchman launched the decisive attack, broke clear of the favorites and carried a 16-second lead to the finish line. The reward for the strong solo ride: the stage win, the leader's jersey, and the day's most combative rider award. Earlier, a three-man breakaway group of Ellande Larronde, Miguel Heidemann and Ole Theiler had shaped the race for a long time. At one point the trio built a lead of more than four minutes. In the peloton, UAE Team Emirates-XRG in particular took responsibility for controlling the gap on behalf of prologue winner Isaac Del Toro. The race picked up speed with the climbs in the finale. The breakaway's lead melted away, the pace in the peloton increased and the group of favorites grew steadily smaller. Barré didn't wait for the sprint to decide things; instead he attacked on the climb to the bonus sprint and went on the offensive. The 26-year-old pulled clear and held his lead over the final kilometers into Schwabisch Hall. Behind him, the battle was on for the remaining podium places. Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) won the chasers' sprint 16 seconds behind Barré, ahead of Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek). Natnael Tesfatsion (Movistar) and Edoardo Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious) completed the top five in the same time.
