The date of the Deutschland Tour 2024 has been set. The tour will be held from Wednesday, 21 August, to Sunday, 25 August, next year

Germany's most important cycling race remains true to its concept and will continue to be held as a five-day stage race in the UCI ProSeries, the competition below the WorldTour. This ensures that, in addition to the Tour de France stars, the best German talents can also take part in their home tour.

Villingen-Schwenningen is the first host city of the Deutschland Tour 2024 to be announced. The city in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg will be the destination of the 3rd stage. The early decision follows a positive trend: interest in the Deutschland Tour is growing. In addition to the 750,000 fans along the route, 6 million viewers watched the live broadcasts on ARD and ZDF four weeks ago - an increase of 20% over last year.

"Cycling is experiencing a momentum in Germany. More participants in the amateur races, more interest in the TV broadcasts and the enormous fan enthusiasm on site show the great potential. As the flagship of German cycling, the Deutschland Tour is helping to shape this trend. The Deutschland Tour 2023 is barely history, and planning for the next edition is already in full swing. Villingen-Schwenningen is the first host of the 2024 Tour. The city in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg will be the finish destination of the 3rd stage. With the finale on Saturday afternoon, the twin city has secured a highlight with many visitors.

The confirmation of the UCI race calendar for the coming season is still pending, but cycling fans from the Black Forest should make a note of August 24, 2024. That Saturday, the Deutschland Tour will make a stop in Villingen-Schwenningen. Located in the heart of Baden-Württemberg, the region will once again become a cycling epicenter and welcome the world's best professionals to the finish of the 3rd stage. According to the dual city, the finish lap will incorporate both districts, Villingen and Schwenningen. The German top stars will travel to VS, the gateway to the Black Forest, with good memories, because this year's German Championships took place in the immediate vicinity with a large attendance.

He took over the red jersey on the 1st stage to Merzig and didn't let go until the end: Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal Quick-Step) won the Deutschland Tour 2023. On the final stage over 175.6 kilometers from Hanover to Bremen, the Belgian didn't take any risk and rolled safely with the peloton to the finish, which was lined with thousands of spectators. Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor Pro Cycling) won the stage in a bunch sprint ahead of Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) and Marius Mayrhofer (Team dsm-firmenich).

The German continental teams with Silas Köch, Jan-Marc Temmen (both Saris Rouvy Sauerland), Tobias Nolde, Dominik Röber (both P&S Benotti) and Vinzent Dorn (Bike Aid) used the flat course of the last stage to present themselves once again. With 27 kilometers to go, all but Nolde were caught up. He held on a little longer but was swallowed at the arrival in Bremen. In the meantime, the peloton was split in two for a few kilometers by cross winds, but this had no effect on the finale outcome.

"It was a beautiful week of racing and full of emotions. You must be a complete rider to be able to win here", said overall winner Van Wilder, who was also awarded with the white jersey as best young rider. "Eleven seconds ahead is not much, so it was still a bit stressful. I was so happy when I passed the three-kilometer mark. Then I was safe. My parents have been here all week, my girlfriend yesterday too. I'm glad I could share these great moments with them." Nothing changed regarding the other classifications either, with Van Wilder's teammate Ethan Vernon winning the green jersey and Harm Vanhoucke claiming the blue mountains jersey on the final day.

Once with the racing bike through the city center of Bremen - and that on closed roads without traffic. This experience was enjoyed at racing speed on Sunday by more than 2300 amateur athletes in the course of the TK Cycling Tour. The participants formed the vanguard for the elite riders of the Deutschland Tour, who also chose their winner in the afternoon on Konsul-Smidt-Strasse in Bremen's Überseestadt.

The starting point for the two courses on offer was the Weserstadium. The athletes spread out over the 66-kilometer "Bremen Round" and the "Weser Round," on which 106 kilometers had to be completed. Both courses took the starting fields to the southern outskirts of Bremen and back to the Hanseatic city. In addition to the strong sporting competition, wind and weather were also relentless rivals.

However, the winners of both courses still made it to the finish line largely dry. The "Bremer Runde" was finished by Hanna Alpmann in 1:35:51 hours and Richard Griewald in 1:31:28 hours. The "Weser Round" was won by Carmen Burmeister (2:27:52) and Jannis Wittrock (2:23:41) respectively.

But not only the winners were satisfied with the event in the end. Florian Golbig from Berlin was less interested in his average speed and the final placing. "I did record all the data. But first and foremost I'm here because of the atmosphere. And it was really good. This is my first time here at the TK Cycling Tour. If it's ever around again, I can well imagine being there again."

Nobody really had him on their radar, but in the end he was faster than all the others: In Essen, Madis Mihkels (Intermarché - Circus - Wanty) was stronger than the second-placed Danny van Poppel (Bora - hansgrohe) and Quinten Hermans (Alpecin-Deceuninck) in third place after 173.8 kilometres on stage 3. The 20-year-old is one of the youngest winners of the Deutschland Tour.

"I was an outsider, but I really believed that I am strong enough in this tough final", the Estonian stage winner said. "With 300 meters to go, the Bora-hansgrohe leadout in front of me was already going full speed. And that's when I realized that I have a lot more in my legs", said Mihkels, who has only one stage win in the Tour of Estonia in his professional career so far. "This is undoubtedly my greatest success so far."

Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal Quick-Step) did not lose any time to his closest rivals and defended the red jersey of the overall leader. "I tried to get a few more seconds at the bonus sprint, but it didn't work out. Still, it looks good, but I don't want to get too excited. Tomorrow I'll just try to stay out of everything and get through safely."

Exhausted but happy, Gregor Mühlberger (Movistar) celebrated his third win of the season in the drizzle of Winterberg on the 3rd stage of the Deutschland Tour 2023. Ten seconds behind, teammate Alex Aranburu had to give full throttle until the finish line and sprinted for second place. He prevailed over Kevin Vermaerke (dsm-firmenich). Overall leader Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal Quick-Step) finished fifth and defended the red jersey.

After a stage win at the Tour of the Alps and a successfull Austrian Championship, Mühlberger was not sure about another win until shortly before the finish line in Winterberg. "At the 300-metre mark I saw that the field was relatively far back, and it shouldn't be a problem anymore. But the 300 meters were endless, the lactate was coming out of my ears. I can't remember a race where I ever went that deep," said the 29-year-old.

Van Wilder, who extended his lead in the overall standings by winning the bonus sprint is now eleven seconds ahead of Felix Großschartner (UAE Team Emirates). He also was satisfied and optimistic, especially as he also took over the green jersey of the points leader. "It was hard today because it rained all day. But I have a very strong team that made it a bit easier for me. The hardest stages are behind us, even if it could be dangerous again tomorrow."

With the first victory of his career, Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal Quick-Step) took over the red jersey at the Deutschland Tour. The Belgian won the 1st stage over 179 kilometres to Merzig in a sprint of a group of three ahead of Felix Großschartner (UAE Team Emirates) and Pavel Sivakov (Ineos Grenadiers).

Van Wilder now leads the overall ranking with nine seconds ahead of Großschartner and ten ahead of Sivakov. The 23-year-old thus also gets the jersey of the best young rider, which will be worn by Kevin Vermaerke (dsm - firmenich) as a substitute. The US-American is eligible for the jersey as the third best young professional because Ethan Vernon (Soudal Quick-Step), who is still ahead of him in the ranking, was able to defend the green jersey of the best in points. The blue jersey for the leader in the mountain classification, which was awarded for the first time, was won by Harm Vanhoucke (Lotto Dstny).

Briton Ethan Vernon (Soudal Quick-Step) has won the opening race of the Deutschland Tour in St. Wendel. The 22-year-old completed the prologue over 2.3 kilometers with a winning time of 2:23.57 minutes - an average of 57.9 km/h. Second was Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), one and a half seconds behind, with third place going to Dutchman Maikel Zijlaard (Tudor), just under three seconds behind the winner.

Vernon collected with his victory all three jerseys of the day to be awarded. The all-rounder is first in the overall standings and will therefore wear the red jersey tomorrow. As the best young professional, white also belongs to him, which will initially be taken by the 24-year-old Zijlaard deputy. Green for the best in points goes to Pedersen by proxy. The mountain jersey has not yet been awarded. As the best German, Nils Politt (Bora - hansgrohe) rode to 5th place, one place ahead of Jannik Steimle (Soudal Quick-Step). The Deutschland Tour 2023 leads over five days of racing from the Saarland to Bremen. The 2.3-kilometre prologue in St. Wendel will immediately sort out the classification for the fight for the overall leader's red jersey, which could be shaken up again on the three following stages with classic character. In the finale in Bremen, after 732 kilometers, the sprinters will fight for the last victory. 20 teams with six riders each, will start. Ten teams have WorldTour status.

Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) has emerged as the top favorite after his recent performances, winning the Tour of Denmark and the Cyclassics in Hamburg last week. "I am looking forward to ride the Deutschland Tour," said the 27-year-old Dane. "I decided to do this race because the stages are an interesting mix. They fit me well and should result in some good racing. I managed to preserve my good form from the Tour de France. Now I'm very excited to see what we can do in Germany." "I think a few seconds gap will decide the GC ranking, and it will be an exciting race where small details will count in the end. I don’t know if I will back to 100% after the rest period following the Tour de France and easy training before the return to races, but I feel fresh and would like to do well. Next Wednesday, August 23, the Deutschland Tour 2023 will start. This year, the professionals will cover 732 racing kilometers on their way from St. Wendel to Bremen. The five days of racing can once again turn into an exciting game of seconds.

Right at the start, the battle for every single second is ignited. A short but winding individual time trial of only 2.3 kilometers through the center of St. Wendel brings the top pros close to the spectators. Last year, it was less than two seconds that decided the first leader's jersey.

The pros also spend the second day of racing in Saarland. But for the leader it will not be a day to rest. On the way from St. Wendel to Merzig, undulating terrain, many changes of direction and a crisp finish lap offer plenty of opportunities for attacks. In addition, valuable bonus seconds will be awarded. Memories of 2018 are awakened, when a small field of favorites decided the day's victory among themselves in Merzig.

August 25 is on the Deutschland Tour calendar a stage of superlatives. Between Kassel and Winterberg, the 200-kilometer mark will be broken - the longest daily section this year. In addition, there are the most meters in altitude (2,950) and the highest point of this year's Tour (766 m). The last five kilometers to the finish line are also all uphill. For many riders, this classic day offers another opportunity to make up seconds.

On August 23, the Deutschland Tour 2023 will begin with a prologue in St. Wendel and excitement is already growing. The 20 teams, including 14 teams from this year's Tour de France, have registered their provisional starters. Among them: four stage winners and the entire podium from last year.

Starting with a German premiere right with the short opening time trial: Nils Politt (BORA - hansgrohe) presents himself for the first time on home roads in the new time trial champion outfit. 12 months ago he was narrowly beaten in the prologue - maybe this time the championship title will inspire him on the winding loop through the city center of St. Wendel. In just two weeks, the Deutschland Tour will be coming to Bremen. On August 27, the Hanseatic city will celebrate the grand finale of Germany's most important cycling race. A whole day is planned where the focus is on the bike - watching, participating and riding. The highlight is the finish of the cycling pros in the Überseestadt. This is where the winner of this year's Deutschland Tour will be crowned.

When the pros reach Bremen, they will already have 700 kilometers of the Deutschland tour in their legs. After five days of racing, which take them from Saarland to the north, the grand finale takes place in the Hanseatic city. From Thedinghausen, the peloton will ride over the Karl Carstens Bridge to Bremen. Passing the Weser Stadium and Bremen's old town, they will reach the finish area in the Überseestadt. At around 4:30 p.m., the pros ride through the finish line in Konsul-Smidt-Strasse for the first time. After that, a lap of just under 5 kilometers has to be ridden three times. Shortly before 5:00 p.m., it will be decided who wins the Deutschland Tour 2023.

Before the pros come to Bremen for their finale, the streets belong to the cycling fans who ride themselves. The TK Cycling Tour starts in front of the Weser Stadium at 9:15 on Sunday morning. On two flat and completely closed off routes - over 106 or 66 kilometers - the route runs through Lower Saxony. The Deutschland Tour is coming to Essen in just two weeks. On August 26, the Ruhr metropolis will host Germany's most important bike race. A whole day is planned where the focus will be on the bike - watching and taking part. The highlight will be the finish of the world's best professionals, who will be competing in Essen for a sporting preliminary decision in this year's Deutschland Tour.

After a stage that leads only through NRW and presents some challenges for the cycling pros, a long finale is prepared in Essen. The entire last hour of the race takes place in the Ruhr metropolis. Via Werden and Bredeney, the peloton heads towards the city center, where it is guided onto the finishing lap by Kruppstraße. In Huyssenallee, the riders pass the finish area in front of the Philharmonie for the first time. Then there is a lap of 7 kilometers through Essen, which will be ridden twice before the day's winner is crowned. At around 6 p.m., it will be decided who can be celebrated as the winner by the Essen public.

The route of the Deutschland Tour offers fans many hotspots again this year. The teams for the Deutschland Tour 2023 have been selected. In addition to the 16 international teams from the WorldTour and the second division, four German UCI Continental teams have also received an invitation. The Deutschland Tour starts on August 23 in St. Wendel, Saarland, and runs over five days of racing to Bremen.

This year, the coveted invitation to Germany's most important cycling event was given to the teams Bike Aid, P&S Benotti, rad-net Oßwald and Saris Rouvy Sauerland Team. Of the 20 teams competing in the Deutschland Tour on August 23 in St. Wendel, half are from the WorldTour. In addition to the only German elite team, Bora - hansgrohe, there are many international first division teams with German pros in the squad. Additionally at the start of Germany's most important cycling event are six teams from the second division as well as four German continental teams who will receive their invitations after the German Championships.

There is a good chance that cycling fans can once again look forward to the country's best riders. With Nils Politt, Maximilian Schachmann or the two-time stage winner of the Giro d'Italia, Nico Denz, Bora - hansgrohe would have exactly the right riders for the hilly sections in the team. The grand finale Sunday of the Deutschland Tour begins again this year with cycling fans riding themselves. On August 27, the TK Cycling Tour will take place in Bremen. 3,000 participants can choose from two routes - both of which start in the shadow of the iconic floodlight masts of the Weser Stadium. From there, it's 106 or 67 kilometers on flat courses out to Lower Saxony and back.

Where SV Werder sparks emotions in the Bundesliga, all cycling enthusiasts experience the start of a great day. After starting at the Weser Stadium, both the long "Weser Runde" and the shorter "Bremen Runde" first head south and cross the Stadtwerder peninsula before passing the borders of the federal state via the districts of Habenhausen, Obervieland and Arsten.

Flatland course with small mountain highlight

Both routes of the TK Cycling Tour then set course for Syke. Near the small town, the route planners have found something that is almost unique around Bremen: an ascent. After about 20 completed kilometers, the route goes slightly uphill. Just under 50 meters of elevation have to be overcome in about 2 kilometers. It doesn't get any hillier. But perhaps windier. Because outside the city limits, the participants can look forward to the Lower Saxony countryside with meadows, fields and long avenue sections.

A prologue at the start, three classic stages and a sprint royal at the end – that's on the menu for the five days of the Deutschland Tour 2023. This year's race runs from August 23 to 27 from Saarland to Bremen. Especially riders who are eager to attack and who prefer a punchy course are in the mix for the overall title.

End of August, the Deutschland Tour runs 724 kilometers from south to north through five German states. In the middle section, the route is characterized by three undulating race days, which will be decisive in the game of seconds for the leader's red jersey.

Prologue: St. Wendel (2.2 km)

The race kicks off with a prologue in St. Wendel on August 23. Last year, the short time trial was raced for the first time. This year, the intensive start to the tour is 2.2 kilometers long. The technically demanding loop around the center of St. Wendel comes without climbs, but it is winding. After just 100 meters off the ramp, the first 90-degree bend awaits and leads into the speed sector of the day. 1.4 kilometers later, the challenges increase. A turn and hairpin bend in short succession interrupt the rhythm before the final section, which leads to the finish at Am Schlossplatz.

Stage 1: St. Wendel – Merzig (178 km)

The 1^st stage also starts from St. Wendel. The race day, which takes place entirely in the Saarland, leads to Merzig over 178 kilometers. The first kilometers initially run south, until before Neunkirchen a change of direction is due and the pros ride along the state border to the north. Already early in the stage, the day's highest point is climbed near Freisen. A constant up and down, partly with very steep ramps, characterizes the middle part of the stage. Past the Bostalsee it goes via Wadern, Weiskirchen on the way to the Saar loop near Mettlach. For the finale in Merzig, a difficult finish lap awaits with the climb to the Kreuzberg Chapel, which some riders already know from 2018, and which must be conquered twice. At that time, the later overall winner Matej Mohoric was able to prevail over Nils Politt. A look at the profile reveals that it will be a day for the classic specialists.

From state capital to state capital: The finale of the Deutschland Tour 2023 begins in Hanover and ends in Bremen. On August 27, most of the last stage will run through Lower Saxony before reaching the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.

The Deutschland Tour 2023 is coming to Hesse. The 2^nd stage starts in Kassel on August 25. The race day will run from the major city in northern Hesse to Winterberg in the Sauerland region.

For the 120 professionals of the Deutschland Tour, the 2^nd stage begins in the middle of downtown Kassel. With a neutral start, slowly and very close to the Hessian cycling fans, they are led out of the city center in the direction of Bad Wilhelmshöhe. The sharp start will take place in front of the Marstall building of Schloss Wilhelmshöhe - the prelude to a tough stage through northern Hesse into the Sauerland region.

With the award to Kassel, it is already certain that Germany's most important cycling race will visit five German states this year. The Deutschland Tour will pass through Saarland, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia as well as Lower Saxony on its way to the finale in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. The exact route will be announced at the end of April.

"I am delighted that the state of Hesse is hosting the Deutschland Tour again this year and that we are getting to know a new stage location in Kassel. The Deutschland Tour comes to the cities, directly to the fans, and it is all the nicer that another major city is shaping the tour this year. This means that the second stage, which is very interesting from a sporting point of view, will have the perfect backdrop right from the start," says Matthias Pietsch, Managing Director of the Society for the Promotion of Cycling - the organizer of the Deutschland Tour.

The Sauerland region marks the halfway point of this year's Deutschland Tour. Winterberg completes the list of stage destinations in 2023. A challenging 2^nd stage will come to an end in Winterberg on August 25. The route in the Sauerland is particularly suitable for the aggressive classic riders.

After the first two days of racing in the Saarland with many challenges, the highest point of the tour awaits in the Sauerland during the 2^nd stage. The German pros in the peloton can show off their knowledge of the route on August 25. They were guests here at the last German Championships. Nils Politt, winner of the 2021 Deutschland Tour, won his first champion's jersey back then.

In the last third of the 2^nd stage to Winterberg, it becomes more and more demanding for the pros. At the latest on the finish lap through Winterberg, the finale is opened. The route passes the 'Kappe' adventure mountain as well as the bobsled run. Also, the 'Kahle Asten' casts its eye over the pros. A final climb, which ends just two kilometers before the finish, invites late attacks once again. In the shadow of Winterberg's landmark, the St. Georg ski jump, the day's winner is determined.

On August 27, fans can look forward to a particularly exciting conclusion to the five-day Deutschland Tour: Bremen's Überseestadt will be the backdrop for a Sprint Royal of the world's best cyclists. Before the professionals race for the overall victory of the Deutschland Tour, thousands of amateur athletes* will already be on their racing bikes in and around Bremen.

For the first time, the new Deutschland Tour comes to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. This means that Germany's most important cycling race has already visited 11 of the 16 federal states since its relaunch. In Bremen, the Deutschland Tour meets a cycling enthusiast region. The Hanseatic city is the most bicycle-friendly major city in Germany: twice as many bicycles as cars are on the road here every day, and Bremen is considered the German birthplace of the bicycle road. So on August 27, the Deutschland Tour with its diverse hands-on program will be part of Bremen's cycling campaign: Bike It!

Sprint finale in Überseestadt

The finish area of the Deutschland Tour is planned in Bremen's Überseestadt. Coming from the Mittelweser region, the pros will enter the city area via the Carl-Carstens-Brücke and pass the Weserstadion and Bremen's old town shortly before the finish. One of the Deutschland Tour traditions is that spectators can enjoy the spectacle several times: A finishing lap takes the pros through the Bremen scenery three times. It is the preparation for the crowning finale of the Deutschland Tour 2023, because the long finishing straight of 750 meters is made for a sprint royal.

The Deutschland Tour is coming to the Ruhr region. Essen will host the finish of the 3rd stage of Germany's most important cycling race. On August 26, a preliminary decision for the overall victory of the Deutschland Tour 2023 will be made in the Ruhr metropolis.

For the first time since its relaunch, the Deutschland Tour will pass through the Ruhr region. The last time the cycling race made a stop in Essen was in the 1950s and 1970s. This year, the five-day tour begins in Saarland, where the prologue (St. Wendel) and the complete 1st stage (St. Wendel - Merzig) will be held. With the finale of the 3rd stage in Essen, the route of the Deutschland Tour 2023 takes shape.

Cycling fans in the Ruhr region can look forward to an eventful Deutschland Tour Saturday on August 26. On the penultimate day of the tour, Essen will provide the backdrop for the prestigious stage win and a preliminary decision in the battle for the overall winner's red jersey. In addition to the finish of the elite riders as the highlight of the day, the Newcomer Tour will also be held in Essen. The junior race is already a good tradition and specifically promotes young female cyclists.

On 23 August, the Deutschland Tour celebrates its big kick-off in Saarland. The start of this year's edition of Germany's most important cycling race will take place in St. Wendel. The district town will host the prologue. On 24 August, the first stage leads from St. Wendel completely through the Saarland to Merzig.

In August, Saarland's cycling enthusiasts will welcome the Deutschland Tour 2023. St. Wendel has firmly established itself in cycling as the host of many competitions, up to and including the Cross World Championships and MTB WorldCups. In addition, one of the most important international junior races, the Trofeo, has been held in the Saarland for 35 years. For some Deutschland Tour pros, August will be a return to their sporting roots.

After the successful premiere of the prologue last year, this year's Deutschland Tour will also start with a short individual time trial. A technically demanding circuit through St. Wendel demands everything from the 120 professionals right at the start. The seconds game is exciting for the spectators along the route and shapes the sporting decision for the leader's jersey in the following stages

St. Wendel will also be the starting point of the first stage. It runs completely through the Saarland and leads the professionals through the mountainous north of the state. The route offers views worth seeing, for example of the Saar loop, and runs all the way to Merzig. With its hilly profile and a demanding finish lap, the stage has a typical classic character.

For the Deutschland Tour, the stage finish in Merzig is a comeback. The race was already hosted here in 2018, when Matej Mohoric won the sprint of a lead group just ahead of Nils Politt and laid the foundation for his later overall victory.

Along with the cycling calendar for the coming season, the world federation UCI has also announced the status and date of the Deutschland Tour 2023. The Tour will be held from Wednesday, 23 August, to Sunday, 27 August.

Germany's most important cycling race will also be staged next year as a five-day stage race in the UCI ProSeries, the competition below the WorldTour. This year's staging was a great success. More than 500,000 spectators watched the exciting professional race between Weimar and Stuttgart, and more than 5 million viewers watched the broadcasts via stream and on TV throughout Germany. The race for amateur athletes on the final Sunday was fully booked. Almost 6,000 athletes, from the kids of the "kinder Joy of Moving mini tour" to the participants of the Techniker Ride Tour, were attracted by the Deutschland Tour.

"2023 will build on the success of the Deutschland Tour 2022. The Tour has established itself with the best teams and riders in the world as well as with the participants of the Jedermann Tour. We are delighted that our traditional date at the end of August has been confirmed and that we can now finalise the details for the fifth edition of the new Deutschland Tour" says Matthias Pietsch, Managing Director at the Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Radsports.

The 4^th and last stage of the Deutschland Tour 2022 once again turned many things upside down. However, the top positions in the overall classification remained unchanged. Adam Yates (Ineos Grenadiers) took 5^th place in the final stage, running over 186.6 kilometers from Schiltach to Stuttgart – just to win the Deutschland Tour 2022. Even the day's victory could not push Peio Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious), the overall second, further ahead. However, the Spaniard can console himself with the green jersey, which he took last minute from Norwegian Alexander Kristoff.

Bilbao said after his stage win: "Fighting for the overall classification was hard. But I felt I could fight for the stage win today. That worked out. That's why it was a good week for me in my first race in Germany. For sure I will come back."

Even more confident was Yates.“’Lucky’ is not the word I would use. This win really means a lot for me. We tried to control the race from the beginning, but it felt like everybody wanted to be in the break today. At one point it got tight, but we stayed calm, didn’t panic and came away with the win.”

Behind Yates and Bilbao there was movement in the overall standings. At the last moment, Ruben Almeida Guerreiro (EF Education - EasyPost) made it to the podium. He was helped by the bonus seconds he gained as second of the day at the finish and at the day's bonification sprint. Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux) moved to the 4^th place in the GC by sprinting to third place in the final stage. On top of that, he won the white jersey of the best young rider like he did last year.
